Before 2024, Kigali intends to finish 58 road projects. By 2024, the new roads will
have been built or upgraded across a total distance of 215 kilometers.
Approximately 33.7km would be added to the current road network under phase
one, according to Emmanuel Asaba Katabarwa, the city engineer.
There are 10 road projects in the first construction phase, 13 in the second, 14 in
the third, just 6 in the fourth, and 10 and 5 correspondingly in the fifth and sixth.
2009 households will be relocated to make room for building activities because of
the nature of the construction process.
The actions are being taken to reduce traffic in the capital. The work will include
building four-lane roadways and more than 40 flyovers in several road junctions
where it is not easy to move from one road to another across the city.
The city plans to construct flyovers in Giporoso-Prince House to Kabuga. Part of
the plan will see the expansion of Nyabarongo-Kanogo road with four lanes.
In addition, the Nyabugogo Bus Terminal will also be revamped to increase its
capacity of receiving many buses.
